Thanks for getting past the screaming headline and actually hearing me out.
Today is my birthday. (Have you had your “ah-ha” moment yet? No?- Keep reading.)
I know- about 20 million people on the planet have today as their birthday as well- so what am I whining about?
Do you remember being in elementary school? (say yes) And that when it was someone’s birthday they brought goodies and the entire class had a party in their honor? (say yes) And that those parties were always in the afternoon so you could go outside and play after the goodies and singing? (say yes) (“Ah-ha”? No?- keep going.)
That’s what everyone remembers.
Not me.
Yes- we had “my party”. Yes- there were goodies. Yes- we all sang. Then we went to a stupid assembly about earth day.
No playing. No running. No being an automatic captain for kickball. No fun. Happy BEARTHDAY. Wa. Hoo.
So- that’s why earth day SUCKS! (Seriously- if you haven’t had your “ah-ha” moment yet, ask the person nearest you to slap you ‘cross that back of your head!)
It also SUCKS because people only really care one day a year. Instead of everyday. I’ll venture to guess that the one day of “green living” (eg- biking instead of driving) actually NEGATIVELY effects the environment because now everyone didn’t run the errands they needed to, so everyone doubles up tomorrow, and boom, the carbon footprint for April 23rd is not twice as much as April 21st, but more like 3-4 times as much.
Think about it. (A 2nd “ah-ha” moment possibly?)
Happy Birthday to: St. Francis of Assisi; Julius Sterling Morton (founder of Arbor Day); Jack Nicholson (the actor); & Isabella I, of Castile, (Queen of Spain, 1479-1504, patron of Columbus- yes, THAT Columbus)- just to name a few.
