Easter SUCKS!

Over the past couple days, especially yesterday (Good Friday) and today, I’ve seen a lot of tweets and updates circling around Easter.

I don’t have a problem with this.

Just like I don’t have a problem with Earth Day. I don’t like the fact that I share my birthday with Earth Day, but I’ve learned to live with it- even if it too sucks.

So why does Easter suck?

I love what Easter is. Easter is the celebration of Jesus’ selfless act of loving us in spite of ourselves.

I also enjoy what else Easter is: candy, egg hunts, family and friends, bunnies, et cetera.

Here’s the beef.

If you are a Christ follower and the only time of year that you tweet or update or blog or come out of the closet with your faith is on Easter (or Christmas) please shut up.

You’re confusing your friends that don’t know about your “faith” the other 360-some-odd days a year.

Just like I say every year on Earth Day: Don’t just live it one day a year. Do it everyday.

Some may counter that there’s nothing harmful in being a holiday-fanatic because it’s expected. I’d say you’re right- if we were talking about football (Super Bowl) or International Rubber Band Day. But, we’re not talking about non-sensical celebrations or holidays. Easter matters. Christmas matters. Earth Day matters (to a lessor extant, imo, but still). The Super Bowl and rubber bands don’t.

What about you? Are you a holiday-fanatic of anything?

Good stuff Nick. I like the catchy title of the blog post. It got me here to read it. Good take on the subject. I’m with you.

I also understand why people come out of the christian closet on this week. Unfortunately, Christ’s sacrifice and victory isn’t the focus of many sermon topics these days. Like it’s old hat, not “creative” enough. Churches try to catch new people with things that people wouldn’t expect at church… but in all that noise, sometimes what Christianity is all about is sometimes pushed to the side. Almost peripheral. It’s as if Easter is the one time a year people wake up and go “oh yeah… that’s right. This is why I’m a Christian.”

    Thanks for the thought provocation.

Wow you had me going there for a few lines. I was getting ready to rip you to shreds, in a very Holy way. :) I read this on my reader and had to comment. It is making me think of my past conversations and comments to people online and in person throughout this last year.

      Ha!

Glad you didn’t bro- but if I had needed some accountability, it would have been welcomed, eh?

Thanks for jumping out of the reader man!
